This plane is very fast and responsive and not for the beginner pilot. It will cruse at 160 knots at 10,000 feet. This aircraft is open cock pit and easy to see the world as you fly. The engine and fuel system is not made for continuous inverted flight. It will do most aerobatics but try and keep positive G's.
Aircraft was recovered with stits and painted with aerothane in about 2005. New wheel struts were built by Steen and installed.
The power plant in a IO-470 Continual. The exhaust was replaced with a custom made stainless steel. The engine has new plug wires and spark plugs. The engine runs very well and pulling 260 HP. The electrical system has new solenoids and battery. Starts very easy because the engine is tuned very well.
The prop was replaced with a better two blade constant speed Hartzell. The blade is controlled from the cock pit control using engine oil hydraulics.
This Skybolt has all the FAA required Avionics. There is only one heat probe. The fuel indicator is capacitance and not a float type.
The pilot sits in the back while the passenger in the front. Behind the pilots head is a small compartment that can carry a small suitcase full of things. The pilot seat is not adjustable, but is made for a tall person. If you are short you will just need to add more cushions.
The exterior is mainly fabric with aircraft aluminum toward the front of the aircraft. The fuselage is 4130 tubing. The wings are wood and steel cable. The wing wires are stainless steel flat rods.
I do all of my own maintenance but still have the plane inspected by a second person for safety. The plane was inspected and signed airworthy and safe in September 2017. This will be good for a year.
