History
Ex-Finnish Air Force 1960 Fouga Magister FM18 was the last French, Potez-Air manufactured
Magister, supplied to Finnish Air Force before production was undertaken by Valmet OY to
complete the Finnish inventory. As a Finnish Fouga, it was equipped with slightly larger
non-hydraulic ailerons, eliminating a somewhat complex hydraulic system found on the
French version. Fougas were in Finish Air Force use until 1988, with FM18 amongst the
first 4 Fougas sold to civilian ownership . . . hand selected by Dean Martin of the
United States and registered as N805DM. Finnish Air Force technicians disassembled,
containerized, and reassembled the aircraft to FAF technical standards. Dave Sutton
was the second owner, then Michel Cote in 1999. Mr. Cote donated the plane to the
Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in 2005 and the registration was changed
to C-FHGD. The current owner acquired the aircraft in 2006, importing FM18 back
into the United States as N175FM.
