Pre-Buy Inpsection
March 2, 2009
Pre-purchase survey of a 1965 Mooney M20C, serial #3035, US Registration number N5673Q.
The airplane was covered with a top grade cabin cover and cowl plugs to keep out the elements. The engine had been properly preserved for winter storage. The engine was de-preserved and run up. The engine started quickly and ran smoothly with all engine gauges indicating normal. The propeller was just overhauled and has a new style hub with no recurring AD’s due.
Cylinder compressions are: #1=72, #2=75, #3=76, #4=78 over an 80 psi input pressure.
Radio communication was established with the local control tower and reported to be satisfactory.
The King KLN90 GPS acquired satellites quickly and functions normally. All cabin systems operated normally.
The exterior paint is intact and shows normal wear for its’ age. It has gloss but will need waxing to remove the surface oxidation and restore the shine.
The interior is in good condition with minor wear on the carpet and seats.
The logbooks are complete and the airplane is in annual. The last annual was performed on 8/25/2008 by a Mooney authorized service center. The previous annual was also done at a Mooney center. The records indicate that the last two annuals were very thorough with rebuilding of the magnetos, replacement of landing gear bolts and bushings, and autopilot repairs.
The overall mechanical condition is above average by inspection of the aircraft and the logbooks.
The few defects noted at this time are as follows:
minor surface corrosion on the landing gear doors
peeling of chrome plating on the aluminum propeller spinner
chipped paint on the cowl directly behind the propeller
the need for a good polishing of the paint
