Notes
North American T-6G NT Serial # 50-1279

Originally a AT6C built in 1942 this aircraft was Factory rebuilt as a G model in 5/1951, Contract NA-168 was 1 of 50 serial #s specifically built to solve a training crisis of lack of standardization in fear of the cold war. These aircraft had identical radio sets as the fighters and bombers for instrument training and also these 1st 50 were equipped with mounts and racks for bombs, guns and rockets so if needed they could be easily converted to the famous LT6-G model. (From the book Texans)

1279 was assigned to the 146th Fighter Intercepter squadron in Pittsburg PA with the PA Air National Guard. The records with the plane list the names of crew chiefs and pilots up to the last flight in March of 1957 flying only 6 years. Veterans from this group were contacted and remembered "Suzy Q" from the flight line. Many names of these men are found scratched into the interior of the plane. The plane was donated to the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio Wright Patterson Field in 3/57 and preserved and put on display there until sold 11/2001 to Northern Air and Ag Inc of Fairmount ND to be restored. Photos of 1279 are on old brochures for the museum. It was bare aluminum with a white nose with the number 304 on it. Many photos of this plane appear in internet file photos and shown on the Weather Channel in different features.

1279 has all original equipment as served with the PA ANG in 1957, including all radio sets and antennas. All original instruments and placards and has been painted to computor matched Yellow Air Force colors and all original markings from Black and White photos of a sister ship 1 serial # away. The cowling had the original name Suzy Q scratched into the skin and was duplicated.

All old paint has been chemically stripped, epoxy primed and repainted with Dupont Imron. All interior paint is 'original' Zinc Green and only repainted as needed. Instrument panels are totally original not restored with overhauled instruments. A modern Becker com and Terra transponder with encoder and intercom have been added. The center section of the plane was completely reskinned due to numerous dents and dings from use as the rest of the plane was dent and corrosion free. The plane was stored in a climate controlled environment 44 years and was in incredible condition. All rubber seals, orings, packings, and all hoses have been replaced. All metal lines stripped, cleaned and remarked with coded labels and original part numbers. Landing gear completely overhauled with new brakes, tires and cylinders. Original aux fuel tanks tested. All Landing gear electrical wiring replaced. All wiring replaced to critical engine instruments. The engine has been flushed, checked over and had a oil filter and chip detector system added to it. It was test run on the ground for 3 hours with no problems.

Total time on the airframe is 2056 with 957 since last IRAN in 1954
Total engine time since 1952 military overhaul is 404 hrs.
Prop time is 0 since overhaul.

The plane last flew into the Wright- Patterson AFB Museum on 3/30/1957.
A new and 1st standard airworthiness certificate was issued on 6/17/07 followed by its 1st flight in
