The Cessna 208B caravan first flight was on August 8th 1982. Cessna brought the aircraft into production in 1984. There were roughly two thousand of these aircraft built and Fed Ex was the major purchaser. The base price of the caravan 675 was a little over two million dollars. Cessna worked hand in hand with Fed Ex during production. Working with Fed Ex’s needs, Cessna manufactured a caravan variant know as the Cargomaster. Shortly thereafter, Cessna
introduced the Super Cargomaster. The original 208 caravan typically
sat nine passengers with one crew member. With the appropriate FAR Part 23 waiver, the plane could seat up to fourteen. In April of 2008, Cessna announced that all new caravan planes going forward were to receive Garmin G1000 glass cockpits. The Cessna caravan was equipped with a 677 horsepower Pratt & Whitney engine and had a cruising speed of 197 mph. The planes gross weight is 8,752 lbs and has a range of 1,243 miles at max fuel capacity.
