The Rockwell Commander was originally developed in the 1970's as the Commander 112. In the 1990s, a newer series was built, labeled the Commander 114. Variants of this plane include late builds of both the 112A and the 114. The latter had several changes exterior changes. The 112B came with a higher maximum take off weight, plus a new propeller, bigger wheels and larger wingspan. The 112TC variant is the same as the 112A however has the Lycoming TO-360-C1A6D turbo engine. The 114A Gran Turismo variant, of which only 41 were produced, has one Lycoming IO-540-T4B5D engine which produces 260hp, and has a gross weight of 3260lb. The maximum speed of this variant is 191mph and it
has a service ceiling of 16500 feet. Another variant of the 114A is the 114B, this aircraft has a different propeller and Lycoming IO-540-T45BD engine plus some revision to the engine cowling. Finally, the 114TC variant is based on the 114B, with the exception of the turbo engine: a Lycoming TIO-540-AGIA.
